José María Goicolea
MSc Civil Eng. (UPM, 1979) and PhD (U. Of London, 1986). Full Professor since 1992 in the school of Civil Engineering Of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Currently head of the Department of Structural Mechanics. I have worked previously in design, development and research in structural mechanics (Empresarios agrupados 1980, Principia Mechanica SA 1985-1989, ENASA – TGI 1990-1992).
My academic activity lies within the field of computational mechanics, with focus on structural dynamics (bridge dynamics, nonlinear dynamics of structures under impact and explosions, dynamics of multibody systems), in Biomechanics (soft tissues and cardiovascular applications) and in new numerical models using finite elements or finite differences. I am active in the study of the history of science and technology, as president of the Fundación Juanelo Turriano. My personal interests are my family, sports (running, cycling, walking), music [Pianta bella] and the Valle de Mena.
